Job summary

APG Workforce is seeking an experienced Project Engagement Advisor to support a Queensland Government department in Cairns. You will deliver strategic communications, community engagement and stakeholder management across major infrastructure projects, coordinating community consultation and ensuring effective liaison with landholders, community members and government representatives.

The role offers an hourly rate of $73.00 plus super, with a 9 Nov 2026 – 28 Jul 2028 contract and one

Qualifications

• Experience in community engagement, stakeholder management or strategic communications within infrastructure or government.
• Experience preparing ministerial/executive correspondence and stakeholder communications.
• Strong understanding of government operations, media relations and regional engagement.
• Ability to develop and implement communication and stakeholder engagement strategies.
• Proven ability to manage sensitive issues and reputational risk.

Responsibilities

Project Engagement Advisor – AO5 | Cairns, QLD

APG Workforce is currently seeking an experienced Project Engagement Advisor to join a Queensland Government department based in Cairns.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to major infrastructure projects by delivering strategic communications, community engagement and stakeholder management activities across the region.

About the Role

As a Project Engagement Advisor, you will provide strategic communications and stakeholder engagement support to project teams delivering major infrastructure projects.

You will play a key role in coordinating community consultation, managing stakeholder relationships, providing strategic advice and ensuring effective communication between project teams, landholders, community members and government representatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate community engagement activities for major infrastructure projects.
• Provide strategic communications and stakeholder engagement advice to Project Managers.
• Develop and implement communication strategies and stakeholder management plans.
• Engage and consult with community groups, landholders and other key stakeholders.
• Manage community enquiries, emerging issues and stakeholder concerns.
• Act as a key point of contact between project teams and external stakeholders.
• Prepare ministerial and executive correspondence, briefing materials and communication documents.
• Support media responses and reputation management activities.
• Provide clear and timely advice to internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Identify opportunities to improve engagement practices and community outcomes.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

• Previous experience in community engagement, stakeholder management or strategic communications, ideally within infrastructure or government.
• Experience preparing ministerial and executive correspondence, briefings and stakeholder communications.
• Strong understanding of government operations, media relations and regional community engagement.
• Demonstrated experience developing and implementing communication and stakeholder engagement strategies.
• Proven ability to manage sensitive issues, stakeholder concerns and reputational risks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
• Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to engage with diverse community groups and stakeholders.
• Ability to provide strategic advice and manage competing priorities in a changing project environment.
• A proactive approach to problem-solving, innovation and continuous improvement.
