Job description

Overview

Project Director | Water Infrastructure Projects. Turning the recruitment game upside down and inside out. This role is more than delivery. As part of the SLT, you'll lead in a fast-growing business now transforming strategically from the inside out.

Your new employer is a specialist civil and utilities infrastructure contractor known for delivering complex, high-risk projects across transport, water, power and defence. They partner with Tier 1 builders, government clients and asset owners to provide end-to-end solutions, covering everything from underground utilities and civil works to multi-service relocations and critical infrastructure upgrades.

With a reputation for engineering-led delivery, their portfolio includes major Sydney Water, Ausgrid, and TfNSW projects and they are often engaged early in the project lifecycle to help de-risk tenders and design smarter solutions for complex scopes. They hold major accreditations including Sydney Water, ASP1 and Federal Safety Commissioner, making them a trusted delivery partner where safety, compliance and technical capability are critical.

The business focuses on solving compound engineering challenges by integrating civil, structural and utility disciplines into a unified approach. They excel when involved early in the project, working closely with clients to shape practical, cost-effective solutions that go beyond traditional contracting.

Their vision is to be recognised across Australia as a long-term infrastructure partner, valued not just for project outcomes but for technical excellence, commercial integrity and their ability to navigate complex challenges with confidence.

This role goes far beyond project delivery. As part of the senior leadership team, it offers a genuine opportunity to lead within a business that’s grown rapidly and is now undergoing a strategic transformation from the inside out. The organisation is evolving from a high-growth contractor into a sustainable, systems-driven infrastructure partner.

This maturity is taking shape across all areas of the business including system upgrades, leadership coaching, new executive appointments and a strong commitment to engineering excellence, collaboration and transparency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage concurrent water infrastructure projects
  • Take full accountability for safety, commercial performance, program delivery, and quality outcomes
  • Engage closely with the tendering and commercial teams from early bid stage through to completion
  • Oversee a strong support team, including dedicated HSEQ resources, post-award commercial and project controls support and a CA or QS on each project
  • Manage 6-10 direct reports (depending on the size of projects)
  • Report directly to the General Manager
  • Work flexibly across office and site (2–3 days expected onsite or in the office each week)
About You
  • Background in Tier 2–4 civil or utilities contracting
  • Deep understanding of utilities infrastructure, particularly water and wastewater
  • Ability to add value through early contractor involvement and engineering-led problem solving
