Job summary

Department of Transport and Main Roads QLD - Nerang QLD is seeking a Project Director - Major Public Transport Projects to provide strategic leadership and lead the planning, procurement and delivery of large transport projects for the South Coast Region.

The role requires leading project teams, coordinating consultants and contractors, managing budgets and schedules, and delivering technical submissions and reports to senior management with a focus on best-practice project management.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the project team, consultants and contractors to ensure deliverables, time and budgetary requirements are met.
• Investigate and resolve complex engineering and contract issues associated with the project to improve overall performance and ensure value for money.
• Monitor and report on project progress against predetermined time, cost and quality specifications.
• Prepare and deliver submissions and reports relating to planning, design and technical (including contract) issues and identify mitigation strategies to overcome problems.
• Provide specialist advice to senior management on all aspects of the project and make technical presentations as required.
• Identify and harness the necessary internal and external expertise to deliver project requirements, including the selection, engagement and procurement of consultants and contractors.
• Promote a positive project culture and manage development and implementation of the total project plan across integration, HR, scope, communication, time, risk, cost, procurement and quality.
• Act as Principal Representative's delegate for delivery contracts as required.
• Capture shared project learnings and foster best practice technology and project management methodologies.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders and lead staff development, workforce and succession planning, budget and business planning processes.

The Project Director - Major Public Transport Projects will provide strategic leadership, and technical expertise to lead and project manage the planning, procurement and delivery of large transport projects for South Coast Region

Accountabilities include

• Lead and manage the project team, consultants and contractors to ensure all members are appropriately skilled and utilised, and to ensure deliverable, time and budgetary requirements are met.
• Investigate and resolve complex engineering and contract issues associated with the project to improve overall performance and ensure value for money.
• Monitor and report on project progress against predetermined time, cost and quality specifications.
• Prepare and deliver submissions and reports relating to planning, design and technical (including contract) issues and identify appropriate mitigation strategies to overcome problems or obstacles related to the project.
• Provide specialist advice to senior management on all aspects of the project and make technical presentations as required.
• Identify and harness the necessary internal and external expertise to deliver project requirements, including the selection, engagement and procurement of consultants and contractors.
• Promote a positive and productive project culture and manage development and implementation of the total project plan in relation to integration, human resources, scope, communication, time, risk, cost procurement and quality.
• Act as "Principal Representative's delegate" for the delivery contracts, if required, as defined and delegated at respective development/implementation phases.
• Capture shared project learnings, develop, and foster best practice technology and project management methodology within Transport and Main Roads.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders while leading and directing the development of staff in the areas of achievement, workforce and succession planning, budget and business planning processes.
