Job summary

NEXTDC in Sydney, Australia, is seeking a seasoned Project Director to lead the Colocation Development portfolio. You will own major data centre developments from design through handover, directing multidisciplinary teams, managing vendors, and ensuring safety, schedule, and budget performance.

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, you will drive governance, risk management, and high-quality standards while collaborating with customers, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders to

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience leading and delivering large-scale, complex projects in data centre, mission-critical, or similar infrastructure sectors.
  • Bachelor’s degree in property development, construction management, engineering, architecture, or related fields.
  • Strong leadership, commercial acumen, and negotiation skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Excellent knowledge of building codes, regulatory approvals, and authority processes.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Safety – Embed a safety-first culture, championing zero harm throughout design, construction and operations.
  • Governance & Risk – Establish governance frameworks, oversee compliance, and proactively manage risk registers.
  • Financial & Commercial – Lead project budgets, cashflow, procurement strategies, and financial reporting, aligning with business objectives.
  • Programme Delivery – Direct the overall development programme, optimise timelines, monitor progress, and drive corrective actions.
  • Design & Authorities – Oversee design finalisation, authority approvals, and regulatory compliance, maintaining stakeholder engagement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement – Act as key interface for customer and internal/external stakeholders with clear reporting.
  • Innovation & Improvement – Mentor teams, drive accountability, and embed continuous improvement in design, programme, safety and cost methodologies.

As a Project Director within NEXTDC's Colocation Development team, you will hold full accountability for the successful delivery of major data centre developments and play a key leadership role in supporting NEXTDC's ongoing development program.

This senior leadership role spans the full project lifecycle, from design and procurement through to construction and operational handover. As the Principal's Representative, you will lead multidisciplinary teams, manage key stakeholder relationships, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer you will bring extensive experience delivering data centres or other mission critical infrastructure.
