Job summary

TalentFix is seeking a Project Director to own a significant Australian renewable energy portfolio across utility-scale Solar PV and BESS. You’ll oversee the project from late-stage development through COD, ensuring commercial, financial, contractual and delivery pieces stay connected.

You will work with the Country Manager and lead Engineering, Construction, Commercial, Finance, Legal, HSSE, lenders, EPC contractors and suppliers to keep complex projects moving and deliver successful outcomes.

Qualifications

• Senior owner-side Project Director or Delivery Director experience in renewables.
• Experience across late-stage development to handover and through COD.
• Australian market exposure is highly regarded.

Job description

You’ve delivered major renewable energy projects before. You know what happens when a project starts to drift, when one delay creates three more somewhere else, and when construction, grid, finance, contracts and commercial commitments all start colliding.

This role is for someone who can see the whole picture.

We are looking for a Project Director to take overall ownership of a significant Australian renewable energy portfolio across utility-scale Solar PV and BESS.

This is not a role for someone who only wants to focus on construction delivery.

You will sit across the entire project, from late-stage development and FID through construction, commissioning, COD and handover, making sure the commercial, financial, contractual, technical and delivery pieces stay connected.

You will work closely with the Country Manager and act as the senior point of coordination across Engineering, Construction, Commercial, Finance, Legal, HSSE, Project Controls, lenders, EPC contractors, suppliers and other key stakeholders.

The immediate focus will be on two advanced projects, including a major project requiring close coordination around lender discussions, due diligence and remaining BESS delivery, while also beginning to shape the approach across two further projects moving towards construction.

The Australian portfolio is growing, and the longer-term opportunity is for this role to evolve into broader portfolio leadership as additional projects and team members come online.

What you’ll be responsible for

• Overall delivery and commercial performance across major renewable energy projects
• Connecting construction, grid, finance, contracts and commercial commitments into one clear delivery strategy
• Identifying risks early and understanding their downstream impact across the wider project
• Maintaining oversight of CAPEX, forecasts, contingencies and cost-to-complete
• Managing major EPC and equipment contract issues, variations, claims and commercial risk
• Working closely with lenders and financial stakeholders through key project milestones
• Driving critical path activities through construction, commissioning, energisation and COD
• Influencing senior stakeholders and functional teams, often without direct reporting lines
• Providing clear recommendations and decision-making support to the Country Manager
• Creating the governance, accountability and coordination required to keep complex projects moving

You’ll probably be coming from a senior owner-side Project Director, Delivery Director, Project Delivery leader or equivalent role within a renewable energy developer, IPP, infrastructure owner or major EPC environment.

Your original discipline is less important than the breadth of experience you have built since.

You may have started in engineering, construction, commercial or finance, but today you understand how all of those areas connect.

You will have experience across major capital projects and be comfortable discussing project economics, lender requirements, EPC contracts, grid risk, construction performance, programme impacts and executive-level decisions in the same conversation.

Utility-scale Solar and/or BESS experience is important, and Australian market exposure will be highly regarded.

Most importantly, you will be someone who takes ownership.

You don’t point at another function when something goes wrong. You bring the right people together, understand the consequences, make decisions and unblock the project.
