Job description

This position is responsible for leading the technical delivery of the Bureau’s observing networks annual sustainment and upgrade program. The role sits within the Infrastructure Delivery team and is focused on delivery of sustainment projects for critical observing network assets across Australia. These assets may include, but are not limited to, automatic weather stations, flood monitoring sensors, upper air equipment, communications equipment, space and marine observing systems, and other specialised instrumentation used across various network streams.

The Project Delivery Technician applies advanced practical and technical skills in instrumentation, configuration, installation, troubleshooting and commissioning of observing and monitoring equipment. The role contributes to project planning and risk management, undertakes workshop-based preparation activities and field work to support the delivery of network upgrades and sustainment activities nationally.

Project work varies in scale and complexity across stations and systems, requiring the ability to anticipate operational issues, develop practical solutions, and ensure effective coordination with stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be required to work regularly on site at one of the Bureau’s national technical workshops. This is a hands‑on role involving equipment ordering, dispatch, assembly, system testing, field installation, and commissioning activities at locations across Australia and its territories.

Working within the broader Observing Systems and Operations program, the position reports to a Project Manager – Observing Networks, and collaborates closely with technical specialists, contractors, and operational teams to ensure the safe, timely, and efficient delivery of network sustainment projects.
