Job summary

Benmax Pty is seeking a Project Accountant to provide financial insight across our project portfolio and manufacturing operations in Canberra. You will own budgets, forecasts and margin reporting, collaborating with project directors and operations leaders to translate data into actionable commercial guidance.

This role influences decisions with governance over AASB 15 revenue recognition, WIP, and project margin calculations, supported by Procore and NetSuite.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, commerce or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in project accounting, management accounting, cost control or a comparable role.
• Working knowledge of AASB 15, work in progress, cost to complete and project margin reporting.
• Proven ability to translate detailed financial information into clear commercial insight for operational stakeholders.
• Advanced Excel and financial modelling capability.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management and deadline management skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain project budgets, forecasts and reporting, covering actuals, commitments, variations and expected final outcomes
• Prepare and review work in progress, cost to complete and project margin calculations with project and manufacturing stakeholders
• Support AASB 15 revenue recognition and keep clear evidence behind performance obligations and accounting judgements
• Analyse project and manufacturing performance, explain variances and flag emerging cost, commercial and cash risks
• Partner with project directors, project leaders and manufacturing management on forecasting, productivity, costing and decision support
• Monitor claims, retentions, variations, billing and project cash forecasts, and escalate overdue or disputed items
• Reconcile project subledgers to the general ledger and make sure project transactions are coded accurately
• Prepare project reporting and audit schedules for finance leadership and external audit
• Support Procore and NetSuite configuration, testing and reporting, along with manufacturing costing and inventory analysis as activity scales

Since 1986, Benmax has designed, built and maintained the mechanical systems behind some of Australia's most complex buildings. Today our prefabrication facility delivers the cooling systems behind Australia's data centre and AI infrastructure, alongside a national portfolio of commercial HVAC work. About the role

We are seeking a Project Accountant to provide our teams with the financial insight they need to make informed decisions. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will own budgets, forecasts and margin reporting across our project portfolio and manufacturing operations, working closely with project directors and operations leaders to translate detailed financial information into clear commercial advice. It is a role with genuine influence, providing the analysis that shapes decisions while there is still time to act on them.

Also valued

• Experience in construction, engineering, manufacturing, infrastructure or complex project environments
• Experience with Procore, NetSuite or similar ERP and job costing systems
• Exposure to project forecasting, WIP, revenue recognition or ERP implementation
• CA, CPA or CIMA qualified, or working towards it
• Membership of CA ANZ, CPA Australia or CIMA, or current progress towards membership
