Job summary

Design & Build Recruitment in Sydney is seeking an experienced Finance Manager for a growing Sydney-based construction business delivering a diverse portfolio across NSW. You will own the day-to-day finance function and work closely with Directors and project teams to provide commercial insight and drive growth.

You will oversee project accounting, WIP, revenue recognition, budgets and forecasting, ensuring cash flow and profitability.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction/project-based environments.
• Strong project accounting, WIP, and profitability focus.
• Experience managing full accounting function and reporting.
• Month-end processes, forecasting and commercial insight.
• CA/CPA qualification or progression advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day finance including AP/AR, payroll and month-end.
• Prepare monthly management accounts and cash-flow forecasts.
• Manage WIP, project financials, revenue recognition and cost reporting.
• Monitor project profitability, budgets, variations and reporting.
• Support project teams with financial analysis and commercial reporting.
• Manage debtor and creditor relationships and cash-flow management.
• Prepare budgets, forecasts and financial models.
• Oversee BAS, GST, payroll tax and other obligations.
• Collaborate with external accountants, auditors and advisers.
• Review and improve financial processes, systems and controls.

Finance Manager | Sydney | Full-time | Commercial Construction

We are working with a growing Sydney-based construction business delivering a diverse portfolio of commercial, heritage and infrastructure projects across NSW.

They are looking to appoint an experienced Finance Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function and work closely with the Directors and broader project team.

The Role:

Reporting directly to the Directors, you will be responsible for overseeing the company's financial operations and providing commercial insight to support ongoing growth.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing the day-to-day finance function, including AP, AR, payroll and month-end processes
• Preparing monthly management accounts, financial reporting and cash-flow forecasts
• Managing WIP, project financials, revenue recognition and cost reporting
• Monitoring project profitability, budgets, variations and financial performance
• Supporting project teams with financial analysis and commercial reporting
• Managing debtor and creditor relationships and ensuring effective cash-flow management
• Preparing budgets, forecasts and financial models
• Overseeing statutory compliance, BAS, GST, payroll tax and other financial obligations
• Working closely with external accountants, auditors and other professional advisers
• Reviewing and improving financial processes, systems and controls
• Providing commercial advice and financial insights to the Directors
• Supporting the business through continued growth and expansion

We are looking for an experienced Finance Manager / Senior Accountant who has a strong understanding of the construction industry and is comfortable taking ownership of a finance function.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience within construction, building, engineering or a related project-based environment
• Strong understanding of project accounting, WIP, job costing and project profitability
• Experience managing the full accounting function
• Strong month-end, management reporting & forecasting skills
• Excellent attention to detail and commercial acumen
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with Directors and operational teams
• Experience with Jobpac
• CA/CPA qualification or working towards qualification would be advantageous
