Job summary

NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water seeks a Program Officer (Environment Officer Class 8) to design, deliver and evaluate education and engagement initiatives that raise awareness of conservation and heritage obligations across NSW.

Key responsibilities include delivering projects, developing materials, supporting events, analysing data, and collaborating with stakeholders to achieve outcomes while translating regulatory information into accessible content.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting education, engagement, communications, or behaviour-change programs.
• Strong research, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management.
• Demonstrated project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Collaborative approach across teams and with external stakeholders.
• Knowledge of conservation or heritage regulatory environments would be highly regarded.
• Current NSW driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout the state.
• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or demonstrated equivalent professional experience.

• Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $119,292 to $134,587 + super
  

Our Biodiversity & Heritage Regulator team is currently seeking to appoint a Program Officer play key role in designing, delivering and evaluating education and engagement initiatives that help build awareness of conservation and heritage obligations across NSW. The position focuses on driving voluntary compliance through targeted, evidence-based education programs and stakeholder engagement activities.

Key responsibilities include:

• Delivering education and engagement projects within agreed timeframes and priorities.
• Developing communications, educational materials and reports for diverse audiences.
• Supporting workshops, events and stakeholder engagement activities.
• Analysing data and research to improve program effectiveness.
• Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to achieve program outcomes.

About You

We're seeking an engaging and motivated professional who is passionate about environmental and conservation outcomes and enjoys working with a broad range of stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience supporting education, engagement, communications, behaviour change or community outreach programs.
• Strong research, analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to use data and evidence to inform decisions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex information for different audiences.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
• Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across teams and with external stakeholders.
• Knowledge of conservation, heritage or regulatory environments would be highly regarded.
  

Key knowledge and experience

• Knowledge of conservation and heritage regulatory frameworks.
• Experience in supporting education, engagement, communication or behaviour-change projects.
• Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills to support evidence-based program design.
  
• Current NSW driver’s license and ability and willingness to travel throughout the state when required
• Satisfactory criminal records check
• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or demonstrated equivalent professional experience.
