The Opportunity

Eligibility: Applicants must be Australian citizens and be eligible to obtain and maintain an active Australian Government Defence security clearance at the level required for the position.

As Senior Project Manager within the CSI-IPT DDG Program, you will lead the strategic delivery of the Design & Development stream. You will coordinate complex Systems Engineering activities across combat systems domains, working with the Commonwealth and major industry partners including Saab, Lockheed Martin and BAE Systems. Leading without direct authority, you will manage two Project Managers and influence up to 50 multidisciplinary specialists to deliver sovereign maritime combat capability for the Royal Australian Navy on schedule, within budget and to required standards. Your primary objective is to manage outcomes across the full systems engineering design lifecycle— encompassing domains that include electronic Warfare (EW), Communications and Information Systems (CIS), Above Water Sensors (AWS), Australian Interface Combat Management System (AI), Navigation (NAV), Design Modelling & Integration, and AEGIS Combat Management System to ensure a sovereign maritime combat capability is delivered with precision. This is a highly influential role requiring the ability to lead without direct authority, steering a large multidisciplinary team across industry partners (Saab Australia, Lockheed Martin Australia and BAE Systems Australia) and the Commonwealth.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the scope, schedule and cost planning for DDG Tasking Statements, ensuring alignment with program objectives and budget.
• Provide strategic leadership as a member of the DDG Leadership Team, driving decisions, resource requirements and delivery outcomes.
• Manage end-to-end project execution, coordinating engineering activities, deliverables and milestones across compressed delivery timelines.
• Develop and maintain project plans, performance metrics and delivery artefacts to provide clear visibility of progress and technical performance.
• Lead risk and opportunity management, identifying complex challenges and implementing solutions to protect program outcomes.
• As Design & Development Control Account Manager, ensure cross-functional alignment and provide project management advice to program and line management.
• Direct monthly project reporting and governance, integrating schedule, EVM, EAC and risk and opportunity data for program review.
• Review CDRL deliverables for compliance and drive continuous improvement in team performance, resource utilisation and schedule adherence.

What you will bring

• Strong proficiency in planning, scheduling and Earned Value Management (EVM) techniques to maintain rigorous control over large budgets and accelerated delivery timelines.
• Proven track record of complex stakeholder engagement, acting as a primary conduit between the Commonwealth, industry partners (Saab, LMA, BAE), DCE Enterprise partners and internal senior leadership.
• Demonstrated experience in leading and influencing multidisciplinary, matrixed teams of up to 50 personnel, fostering a high-performance culture without direct line management authority.
• Strategic problem-solving skills with a verified ability to support the resolution of complex engineering bottlenecks and develop innovative solutions within highly constrained program windows.
• Proven ability to lead and drive outcomes across large, multidisciplinary teams without direct line management authority, using professional credibility and emotional intelligence.
• Demonstrates knowledge in a range of commercial cost models, enabling the program to stay within scope, schedule, and budget simultaneously. Experienced in decomposing complex program requirements into manageable work packages and identifying critical path solutions.
• Tertiary education qualifications in a relevant discipline from a recognised institution and/or relevant experience within the Defence sector. Post graduate qualification in Project Management (desirable).
• Project Management Certification through AIPM or equivalent institution (desirable).
