Job summary

YMCA Victoria is seeking a Program Coordinator at Howmans Gap Alpine Discovery Camp to lead and deliver outdoor education programs with schools and groups. You will supervise staff, volunteers and placement students and ensure smooth daily operations and safety across all activities.

The role is full-time and hands-on, requiring strong leadership, planning and collaboration with visiting groups while maintaining risk controls and program quality at all times.

Qualifications

• Level 2 First Aid & current CPR certificate.
• Current Drivers License.
• Tertiary qualification in Outdoor Education or Outdoor Recreation.
• TAFE-level certification in recreation, sports administration or related field.
• Bike Education Instructor Award.
• Certified High Ropes Supervisors Award.
• Level 1 Flat Water Canoe or Kayak Award.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate camp programs and functions.
• Supervise and train program staff, volunteers and placement students.
• Deliver programming to school and community groups with clear learning outcomes.
• Ensure learning outcomes and maintain risk management procedures.
• Staff the program with understanding of Australian Adventure Activity Standards.

About the Camp

Howmans Gap Alpine Discovery Camp is an alpine centre and adventure camp located by Falls Creek, and managed by YMCA Camps. Catering to schools and groups year-round, the team at Howmans Gap run a variety of programs and activities to suit every group, from skiing and tobogganing in winter, to orienteering and mountain biking in summer. Featuring state-of-the-art accessible accommodation, cosy cottages, and full catering options, Howmans Gap Alpine Discovery Centre is the perfect place to explore the great outdoors, come snow or sunshine.

About the Role

As the Program Coordinator, you will undertake duties required to ensure all camp programs and associated functions are carried out effectively and efficiently. This hands on role will see the successful applicant working daily with our groups. This position is a leadership role. You will have the responsibility for supervising, directing and training program staff, volunteers and fieldwork placement students as well as working directly in the program.

The role requires weekly key leading responsibilities, liaising within the camp, the visiting group, ensuring all their needs are met, and camp program is coordinated. The role also requires direct delivery of programming to school, community groups, ensuing learning outcomes are achieved, and that risk management procedures are adhered to. You would be required to build and staff the program with an understanding of Australian Adventure Activity Standards, staff ratios etc.

This is a permanent, full-time role with an hourly pay rate of $39.96 + super + Y benefits.

About You

You are a motivated outdoor education professional, with experience in the coordination and delivery of outdoor recreation programs involving young people. You demonstrate strong leadership qualities, and possess strong interpersonal skills, which will allow you to build strong and positive relationships with a number of stakeholders. You are proactive, professional and organised with a proven capacity for ‘getting the job done’.
