Job summary

Reo Group in Sydney is seeking a Professional Indemnity Claims Specialist to oversee a portfolio of PI, liability and financial lines claims from first notification through to resolution.

This newly in-house role involves coverage interpretation, working with brokers and the wider specialist team to drive settlements on small to mid value matters, with a focus on building strong relationships and practical coverage decisions.

Role Overview

As Professional Indemnity Claims Specialist, you'll oversee a portfolio of professional indemnity, liability and financial lines claims from first notification right through to resolution, including coverage interpretation and hands-on management of small to mid value matters.

This role has been created as the business brings its claims handling in-house after previously outsourcing it. You'll partner closely with the wider specialist team and become a go-to contact for brokers and insureds as this internal function is established.

Responsibilities

• Own a caseload of professional indemnity, liability and financial lines claims from notification to resolution
• Assess policy wording to form coverage positions on new and existing matters
• Directly negotiate and progress settlements on small to mid value claims
• Develop and sustain strong relationships with brokers and insureds
• Work alongside legal panel firms on claims strategy and coverage decisions
• Help drive the shift of claims handling from an outsourced provider into an internal team
• Offer technical guidance on complex coverage and liability issues when needed

Candidate Profile

Professional indemnity experience is a must, ideally with some background in liability, construction liability or financial lines. A practising certificate isn't necessary, though a legal background is well regarded, whether you're currently an associate or senior associate in private practice, yet to begin practising, or already working in a claims capacity. There are no direct reports attached to this role, making it ideal for someone who wants to remain close to the policy and claims work rather than step into people management.
