Job summary

SIG Susquehanna is seeking a hands‑on Production Engineer to build and support the Linux/Unix based trading platform. You will develop tooling, monitor health and performance, and collaborate with traders, quants, and engineers to maintain a stable production environment.

The role requires strong scripting skills in Python and Bash, plus experience with mission‑critical systems in a fast‑paced financial setting. Weekend work is required occasionally, with on‑site delivery in Sydney.

Job description

Overview

You will work directly with our technologists, traders, and quantitative research analysts to build, monitor, and support the production environment on a highly automated trading desk. This role is heavily hands‑on with Linux/Unix systems, where you will develop tooling to ensure stability, performance, and reliability across a complex, distributed environment.

You will also contribute to the development and maintenance of software build and deployment tools on Linux, while gaining exposure to market microstructure and understanding how system architecture and operational risk directly impact trading.

This role is supporting a global team and will require you to work one day on a weekend.

In this role, you will:

• Design and develop Python and Bash scripts to monitor the health, performance, and dependencies of a mission‑critical production environment
• Monitor and support a highly distributed Linux‑based trading system
• Partner with the Platform Engineering team on server imaging, testing, deployment, and system configuration
• Act as a key liaison between the trading desk and network, security, market data, and platform teams on production issues and new system setups
• Provide multi‑level production support for traders, strategists, and quantitative researchers
• Help improve system reliability, automation, and operational efficiency across the trading stack

What we're looking for

• Must hold full working rights to work in Australia
• Strong, hands‑on experience with Linux/Unix systems (essential) — this role is deeply OS‑focused
• Proficiency in scripting languages, particularly Python and Bash, required
• Experience supporting production or mission‑critical systems in a fast‑paced environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work closely with traders, quants, and engineers
• Ability to troubleshoot complex system‑level issues under pressure
• Financial services or trading environment experience preferred, but not required
• Good understanding of financial instruments and markets is a plus
• Excellent quantitative and problem‑solving skills strongly preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline
