Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent)
• Experience programming CNC routers, laser cutters, and/or canvas cutting machines
• Strong understanding of sheet metal bending and fabrication principles
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and 2D CAD software
• Working knowledge of steel/timber fabrication industries
• RV/Automotive industry experience highly regarded
• Practical, problem‑solving approach to resolving production and design issues
• Lean Manufacturing mindset and ability to mentor team members
• Experience operating machinery in a manufacturing environment

• Program the canvas cutter machine to support production requirements.
• Apply knowledge of sheet metal bending to design parts and troubleshoot issues.
• Provide hands‑on production support to diagnose design/process issues in real time.
• Identify and implement design, programming, and process improvements to lift efficiency and reduce waste.
• Prepare and audit detailed job sheets, drawings, BOMs and cutting lists.
• Create 2D & 3D drawings in SolidWorks and 2D CAD to support manufacture.
• Review job sheets, drawings, BOMs and cutting lists for completeness and compliance.

About the role

We are seeking a Production Design Engineer to join our team at Cub Campers' manufacturing facility in North Rocks, NSW. This is a full-time, hands‑on role responsible for solving design and production issues on the factory floor, and for programming and optimising the machinery used in our timber and sheet metal sections. You will work closely with production teams to improve efficiency, quality and throughput through better design, programming, and process.

What you'll be doing

Program and optimise the CNC router for the timber section, ensuring accurate, efficient cutting programs for production parts

Program the laser cutting machine for the sheet metal section, including nesting and optimising cut files for material efficiency

Program the canvas cutter machine to support production requirements

Apply strong knowledge of sheet metal bending to design parts that translate cleanly from CAD into production, and troubleshoot bending issues as they arise

Provide hands‑on production support, working with the floor team to diagnose and resolve design and process issues in real time

Identify and implement design, programming, and process improvements to lift production efficiency and reduce waste

Prepare and audit detailed job sheets, production drawings, BOMs and cutting lists for the manufacture of RV vehicles and related parts

Create manual and computer‑based 2D & 3D drawings in SolidWorks and 2D CAD software to support manufacture, ensuring compliance with all specifications and guidelines

Review and examine job sheets, drawings, BOMs and cutting lists for completeness, clarity and conformance to specifications and regulatory compliance

Assist with the design and modification of new and existing products

Liaise with the Purchasing Department to ensure timely procurement of materials

Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules and deadlines

Audit engineering processes with a continual improvement mindset to ensure the highest quality outcomes

To be successful in the role you must have:

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (or equivalent trade/technical background with strong relevant experience)

Proven experience programming CNC routers, laser cutting machines, and/or canvas cutting machines

Strong understanding of sheet metal bending and fabrication principles

Proficiency in SolidWorks and 2D CAD software

A working knowledge of the steel/timber fabrication and manufacturing industries

Recreational Vehicle/Automotive industry experience (highly regarded)

A practical, problem‑solving approach to resolving production and design issues

Process‑driven mindset with an understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles, and the ability to mentor team members

Experience operating machinery and equipment in a manufacturing environment

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, dealing with all tiers of the business

Strong organisational and time management skills, with a high level of attention to detail

Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team
