Job summary

Finisar in Sydney, Australia, is seeking a Production Assistant to support cleanroom cleanliness, ESD and 5S controls. The role may involve hands-on production tasks, including cleaning optical components, hand soldering of electrical assemblies, device assembly and fibre splicing.

You will work as part of a team, follow written work instructions, maintain gowning and PPE standards, and help maintain lean processes under ISO guidelines.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are looking for a Production assistant to perform a range of regular tasks aimed at supporting cleanliness, ESD and 5S controls within the cleanrooms. As a member of the Production Team, the role may also include performing production activities in any area, including cleaning of optical components, hand soldering of electrical assemblies, assembly of devices, splicing of optical fibres.

Key responsibilities

• Wipe down all work surfaces with approved cleanroom materials
• Clean walls, doors, and frequently touched areas.
• Vacuum or mop floors using cleanroom-approved equipment and materials.
• Ensure proper gowning procedures are followed.
• Verify operators use approved cleanroom garments, gloves, masks, and hair covers.
• Audit cleanroom behaviour to minimize particle generation.
• Clean production and lab equipment
• Check ESD mats for cleanliness and damage.
• Verify grounding cords are connected and secure.
• Remove unnecessary plastic, paper, foam, and other static-generating materials.
• Clean work surfaces using approved ESD-safe cleaners.
• Keep floors free of dust and debris.

5S control

• Remove unnecessary items from workstations.
• Identify and tag obsolete tools, materials, or equipment.
• Ensure only required materials for the current production run are present.
• Ensure racks, and storage locations are correctly labelled.
• Check that materials and WIP are stored in designated areas.
• Keep aisles, exits, and emergency equipment clear.
• Ensure visual controls, labels, and signage remain current and legible.
• Remove accumulated unnecessary items.

Key responsibilities

• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment with demanding goals to meet output targets.
• The ability and willingness to rapidly learn new complex assembly processes.
• Flexible to be assigned to work on a range of processes dependant on production needs.
• The ability to follow written work instructions.
• Good manual dexterity and patience.
• The ability for clear written and spoken communication.
• Experience of working withing a cleanroom environment
• 3 to 4 years’ experience as an operator in a high-tech manufacturing organisation operating under ISO standards.
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing Concepts.
