Job summary

Royal Children’s Hospital is seeking an experienced AI Engineer to design, build and deploy production AI solutions that address real clinical and operational problems. You will work across the full deployment pipeline, from concept validation to production delivery, within a small, autonomous team.

The role involves orchestration of AI with deterministic logic and collaboration with engineers, clinicians and staff. AO71–AO75 salary plus super reflects seniority and location.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related discipline, and/or significant relevant industry experience.
• Demonstrated experience building and deploying production software systems, with strong backend development, API design, and at least one of frontend development or infrastructure.
• Practical experience with AI orchestration in a production context, including prompt engineering, multi-step prompt chains, agent architectures, retrieval-augmented generation, or hybrid systems combining AI with deterministic logic.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and deploy production AI solutions addressing clinical and operational problems at Royal Children’s Hospital.
• Work across the full pipeline—from evaluating AI suitability to designing orchestration architecture to delivering the end product.
• Join a small team with high autonomy and ownership, moving AI from validated concept to production.
