Job summary

Zinfra operates the Atlas Compressor Station near Wandoan, QLD, seeking a Mechanical Technician on shift to maintain and repair gas engines, compressors and associated plant. You will work with Operations and E&I teams on planned maintenance, fault finding, breakdown response and project work across rotating equipment.

The role includes an 8/6 DIDO roster with accommodation in Wandoan, and is suitable for candidates in the Western Downs, Darling Downs or Maranoa regions.

Qualifications

• Qualified mechanical tradesperson with hands-on experience in gas engines, compressors or rotating equipment.
• Sound knowledge of permits, isolations and safe work practices.
• Strong fault-finding abilities and decisive field judgement.
• Reliable, accountable, and team‑minded with willingness to learn and share knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned and corrective maintenance on Waukesha gas engines, reciprocating and screw compressors, and the station's process and utility plant.
• Diagnose faults and complete repairs safely and efficiently.
• Maintain high‑pressure gas and process equipment.
• Support shutdowns, commissioning and improvement projects.
• Participate in on‑call and emergency response activities as required.
• Follow permit, isolation and safety procedures and maintain accurate maintenance records.

About the Role

Join the team at Atlas Compressor Station near Wandoan, QLD, a critical facility in the Surat Basin gas network. As the Mechanical Technician on shift, you'll work alongside Operations and E&I teams to maintain and repair gas engines, compressors and associated plant.

This hands-on role includes planned maintenance, fault finding, breakdown response and project work across a range of rotating equipment. It's a great opportunity to build specialist skills in the gas industry while working in a small, supportive team.

Key Responsibilities include

About You

You're a qualified mechanical tradesperson who likes practical, hands‑on work and takes pride in doing the job properly. You're comfortable working on your own or as part of a small crew, you stay calm when equipment goes down, and you see problems through until they're fixed. You will bring:

• A mechanical trade qualification (mechanical fitter, diesel fitter or heavy plant mechanic).
• Current driver's licence.
• Experience maintaining gas engines, compressors or other rotating equipment in gas, oil, mining, power generation or heavy industrial plant.
• Sound understanding of permits, isolations and safe work practices.
• Strong fault‑finding skills and the confidence to make good decisions in the field.
• Reliable, accountable and team‑minded, with a willingness to learn and share knowledge.

Highly regarded

• Experience with Waukesha engines and gas compressors.
• Exposure to TEG, GEAs, or air compressor packages.
• Hazardous area experience.
• Laser alignment and condition monitoring
