Job summary

Naiman Clarke in Canberra is seeking a Lawyer or Associate to join its Privacy & Technology team. You’ll work directly alongside the Partner, gaining hands‑on experience and closer involvement in client matters as the practice expands.

The team serves government departments and private sector clients on privacy, AI, data governance, and ICT procurement, with flexibility to broaden the tech practice or specialise in privacy and information law.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years’ PAE with a developing interest in Privacy & Technology.
• Open to lawyers from private practice, government or in-house backgrounds.
• Eligibility for Australian Government security clearance is required.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with the Partner and gain regular guidance and exposure to clients.
• Contribute to building a growing privacy and technology practice.
• Provide hands-on support across government and private-sector matters.

We're working with a highly regarded national law firm looking for a Lawyer or Associate to join its expanding Privacy & Technology team in Canberra.

The firm has recently invested in an experienced Partner to develop this practice, creating an opportunity for a junior to mid-level lawyer to work directly alongside him as the team grows.

With no layers of senior lawyers between you and the Partner, you'll gain hands‑on experience, greater involvement in client matters and the opportunity to develop your skills much more closely than you might in a larger team.

You’ll also benefit from the support and expertise of an established national practice, giving you the best of both environments.

The Work

The team acts for an interesting mix of government departments and private sector clients, with work spanning:

• Privacy, data protection and Freedom of Information.
• AI, emerging technologies and data governance.
• Government information sharing and regulatory compliance.
• ICT procurement, technology contracts and commercial advice.

There's flexibility to build a broader technology practice or specialise predominantly in privacy and information law.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for a Lawyer or Associate with 2 – 4 years’ PAE who is interested in developing a career in Privacy & Technology.

You could be working in private practice, government or in‑house. Whether you already specialise in privacy or have a broader background and want to move into this area, the firm is open to having a conversation.

Eligibility for an Australian Government security clearance is required.
