Job summary

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation is seeking a Privacy Officer & Junior Lawyer to join the Technology Legal, Privacy & FOI team in Ultimo, Sydney. This fixed term role runs until November 2027 and offers exposure to privacy policy work, PIAs and complex technology contracts across ABC projects.

You'll collaborate with Product & Technology teams and external partners, providing practical legal guidance, developing privacy controls, and supporting senior lawyers in incident response and risk

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications, or demonstrable skills/experience in technology law and privacy.
• Strong technology contract drafting and negotiation skills.
• Solid knowledge of Australian privacy regulation.
• Experience with privacy risk assessments or similar risk work (highly desirable).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines, stay calm under pressure and handle difficult situations with professionalism.
• Confidence managing stakeholders, including difficult conversations.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal input on business initiatives across Product & Technology, procurement, audience and digital product.
• Draft and advise on technology and digital contracts.
• Advise on technology and digital industry legal issues and research technology law questions.
• Prepare clear, concise legal advice and briefing notes for internal clients.
• Support more senior lawyers as needed.
• Be a key privacy contact across the ABC.
• Help teams embed privacy into programs and processes from the start.
• Handle privacy enquiries and requests under the Privacy Act.
• Maintain privacy policies and records of personal information holdings.
• Prepare Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and maintain the ABC’s PIA register.
