Job summary

Department of Justice in Victoria is seeking a Recreation Officer to assess prisoners' recreational needs and develop engaging programs. You will deliver services safely and participate in shift work, including weekends and evenings as rostered.

You will plan and run sport and recreation activities, teach and coach, maintain equipment and records, and support special events while ensuring safety and security of participants.

Qualifications

• The Recreation Officer must complete the Victorian Prison Officer Pre-service training program or be willing to complete it.
• Certificate III in Fitness or higher is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Plan and run varied sport, fitness and hobby programs for individuals and groups.
• Teach, coach and train prisoners in active and passive recreation.
• Check and maintain sports and hobby equipment to keep it safe and ready to use.
• Help plan and run special events and other recreation activities.
• Keep clear records of program attendance and complete regular safety checks and equipment audits.
