Job summary

Transport for NSW is seeking a Principal Transport Planner to design and deliver walking, cycling and e‑micromobility plans within an integrated transport network. You will join a newly formed team, defining targets and measuring success for active transport across NSW.

You will apply evidence‑based transport planning, modelling and data analysis to support end‑to‑end journeys, ensure cross‑modal connections, and align with community and government priorities.

Qualifications

• Experience in transport planning, infrastructure, consulting or the public sector, contributing to products that lift capability across NSW's transport planning system.
• Solid foundation in transport planning principles, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications in planning, engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven ability to deliver high‑quality transport planning outputs using structured, evidence‑based approaches that support integrated transport outcomes.
• Confident working with evidence to produce clear, practical and well‑reasoned transport planning advice, and comfortable using project management approaches, transport planning tools and data‑driven methods.
• Effective in multidisciplinary environments, engaging confidently with subject matter experts and external partners.

About You

• Experience in transport planning, infrastructure, consulting or the public sector, with the ability to contribute to products that lift capability across NSW's transport planning system.
• Solid foundation in transport planning principles, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications in planning, engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven ability to deliver high‑quality transport planning outputs using structured, evidence‑based approaches that support integrated transport outcomes.
• Confident working with evidence to produce clear, practical and well‑reasoned transport planning advice, and comfortable using project management approaches, transport planning tools and data‑driven methods.
• Effective in multidisciplinary environments, engaging confidently with subject matter experts and external partners.
• Clear and collaborative communicator who can translate complex technical analysis into practical insights for a range of audiences, including senior leaders.
• Strong technical transport planning capability, combining analytical rigour with the ability to interpret, develop and refine transport planning guidance, frameworks and methodologies.
