Principal Transmission Lines / Underground Cables Engineer

JD Ross Energy have partnered with a leading provider of engineering solutions for utility and renewable power projects and contribute to the global energy transition and decarbonization efforts while advancing your career and leading a team in a rapidly growing consultancy.

This is a full-time role for a Principal Transmission Lines Engineer (Electrical) based in Sydney, Perth or Adelaide.

Role Overview

• As a Principal Transmission Lines Engineer, you will be leading the lines engineering team.
• You will oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of transmission line projects.
• Tasks will include technical support, troubleshooting, communication with various stakeholders, and networking within the industry.
• Provide senior leadership and strategic direction for large, multi-disciplinary projects up to 500kv. The successful candidate will deliver technical support and professional guidance throughout all project phases, including feasibility studies, conceptualization, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and post-construction activities.

Responsibilities:

• Lead technical and design management for underground cables and Transmission Lines
• Act as Technical lead to the lines team and continue to help the growth of the business
• Develop methodologies and schedules for underground cable projects
• Prepare and review option analysis report
• Prepare procurement specification and technical evaluation reports
• Perform root cause analysis task for underground cable failure incidents
• Create and verify detailed design drawings.
• Estimate and prepare multidiscipline tenders and proposals.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders

Technical Requirements

• Advanced understanding of Underground Cables Design and proficiency with specialist software such as CYMCAP.
• Experience and knowledge of overhead HV Transmission Lines
• Knowledge of current ratings as per Australian Standards
• Forced ventilation design for cable tunnels
• Impressed voltage calculations
• Emergency, Cyclic & Short-term overload ratings
• Cable crossing ratings
• Cable pulling and laying design

Experience

• Technical Support and Troubleshooting skills
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• Practical understanding of tower design from inception to mass fabrication
• Proven knowledge of Australian, ASCE, BSEN and IEC industry standards and regulations.
• You must have proven experience of building and maintaining relationships with key external stakeholders
• Project experience on utility scale projects
