Glencore Australia seeks a Principal – Structural Integrity Engineer to lead structural integrity and remediation across its Australian assets. The role can be Brisbane-based with travel to MT Isa or a Brisbane-based 8/6 FIFO roster, on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years’ experience in structural engineering within mining, heavy industry or processing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to site-based engineering teams in structural integrity and remediation.
  • Ensure alignment with Group Structural Failure Safety Standard across sites and business groups.
  • Review and prioritise structural defects and remediation programs based on risk and resources.

About The Role

As Principal – Structural Integrity, you will provide technical leadership and strategic support for the structural integrity and remediation programs across Glencore Metals Australia, ensuring alignment with the Group Structural Failure Safety Standard and supporting the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of critical assets.

This role is focused on providing technical guidance, identifying and driving continuous improvement opportunities, and supporting consistent approaches to structural integrity across sites and business groups. You will work collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and corporate stakeholders to assess and prioritise structural risks, improve remediation strategies and support effective management of structural integrity programs and portfolios.

You will also provide technical mentoring to engineering teams, support the development of capability, and utilise data, reporting and dashboards to identify trends, monitor performance and provide clear visibility of structural integrity risks and program outcomes across the business.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance and mentoring to site-based Engineering teams in structural integrity and remediation
  • Support alignment of structural integrity practices and remediation strategies across sites and business groups, including compliance with the Group Structural Failure Safety Standard
  • Review and support the prioritisation of structural defects and remediation programs based on risk, criticality, safety, operational impact and available resources
  • Identify and facilitate continuous improvement opportunities in structural inspection, assessment, defect management and remediation processes
  • Work collaboratively with Operations, Maintenance and Engineering teams to develop practical, risk-based solutions that support safe and reliable asset performance
  • Provide technical oversight and assurance of structural assessments, remediation scopes, designs and engineering recommendations
  • Develop and maintain effective reporting, dashboards and data analysis to provide visibility of structural integrity performance, emerging trends, risks and remediation progress
  • Monitor program performance and provide clear reporting and recommendations to site, business group and corporate stakeholders
  • Support the identification, sharing and implementation of structural integrity lessons learned and leading practices across the business
Required Experience

You are an experienced Structural Engineer with a strong background in mining, heavy industry, or processing environments and a proven track record in structural integrity, asset remediation and managing large-scale remediation programs or portfolios.

You will have strong technical knowledge of structural assessment, degradation and failure mechanisms, together with demonstrated experience in assessing and prioritising large volumes of structural defects and remediation requirements. You will be comfortable working collaboratively across Operations, Maintenance and Engineering teams to develop practical solutions and align priorities across multiple stakeholders and sites.

The successful candidate will bring strong analytical and reporting capabilities, with experience managing and interpreting large datasets and developing dashboards or performance reporting to identify trends, monitor risk and support informed decision-making. You will also have a demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, influence stakeholders and drive continuous improvement without relying on direct authority.

Qualification you should have
  • Degree qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Professional Engineer status or actively working towards professional registration
  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in structural engineering within mining, heavy industry, or processing environments
  • Demonstrated experience managing large-scale structural integrity, remediation programs or portfolios across complex operating environments
  • Demonstrated experience in structural inspections, condition assessments, defect management and risk-based remediation
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Standards (AS/NZS), structural design requirements and relevant structural integrity practices
  • Strong understanding of material degradation, corrosion, structural deterioration and structural failure mechanisms
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities and drive consistency across multiple sites or business groups
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and mentoring skills
  • Current driver’s licence and ability to obtain site-specific inductions and certifications
  • Willingness and ability to travel across multiple operational sites and states, and work flexibly as required
