Job summary

Primero is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to lead our structural team in Perth, reporting to the Discipline Manager. You will drive design across a sequence of mining, resource and heavy industrial projects, from concept through to commissioning.

The role requires 15+ years of experience, strong leadership, and deep knowledge of steel and concrete structures, with Space Gass and Strand7 proficiency. Perth head office offers modern facilities and a collaborative culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering (IE Aust recognised).
  • 15+ years structural engineering and project delivery experience in mining/mineral processing, resource, and heavy industrial sectors.
  • Proven leadership of structural teams on small to large projects.
  • Experience with steel and concrete structures.
  • Proficiency in structural engineering software Space Gass and Strand7.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage structural engineering and design teams on projects of varying size.
  • Deliver authoritative structural design solutions for mining, mineral processing, and energy projects.
  • Review and approve structural calculations, reports and specifications.
  • Contribute to project plans, schedules and budgets, and allocate resources.
  • Mentor engineers and promote technical excellence within the team.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve integrated project outcomes.

We are looking for aPrincipal Structural Engineer join our Engineering Team. Reporting to the Civil/Structural Discipline Manager you will be required to work across a continuous succession of projects as they progress through the project lifecyclefrom early concept development, detailed design, construction and commissioning.

This role will be based at our new Head Office on St Georges Tce, Perth. Adjacent to the train station, the City office has state of the art end of journey facilities, including secure storage for bicycles and scooters, a gym, tennis court, basketball hoop and a swimming pool available for all Primero employees.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage structural engineering and design teams on small to large projects.
  • Undertake and deliver structural engineering design solutions for mining/minerals processing, resource sector, and energy projects.
  • Deliver authoritative technical guidance and develop robust, fit-for-purpose, practical, and constructable engineering solutions for clients and key project stakeholders.
  • Ensure structural designs comply with applicable legislation, standards, client, third party, and project requirements.
  • Undertake the review, verification, and formal approval of structural calculations, technical reports, specifications, and associated design deliverables.
  • Contribute to the development of project plans, schedules, budgets, and discipline‑specific resource allocations.
  • Provide mentorship and structured development to engineers, cultivating technical excellence and sustained professional growth.
  • Support the advancement of continuous improvement initiatives and the refinement of engineering standards.
  • Ensure structural designs are delivered in accordance with the project budget and schedule.
  • Ensure structural designs are fit for purpose and consider all aspects including, cost, constructability, operability and maintainability.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams to achieve integrated project outcomes.
  • Engage with clients, vendors and stakeholders to resolve technical issues and support project execution.
  • Assist with studies and tenders.
What You ‘Can Do’
  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering (recognised by IEAust).
  • 15+ years’ structural engineering and project delivery experience in the design of steel and concrete structures for the mining/mineral processing, resource, and heavy industrial sectors.
  • A team player with the ability to work collaboratively within the structural team, and other multi-disciplined project teams.
  • Proven leadership of structural engineering and design teams on small to large projects.
  • Proven experience in the mining/minerals processing, resource, and heavy industrial sectors.
  • Thorough knowledge and practical application of design theories, principles and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge and practical application of relevant industry standards and codes of practice.
  • Proven experience with structural engineering software packages such as Space Gass and Strand7 is essential.
  • Ability to rapidly understand and assimilate project and client specific requirements.
  • Proven experience with development of technical engineering documents, drawings, schedules, and models.
  • Site experience during construction is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated planning and organisation skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to continued professional development.
