Job summary

Primero is seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to join our Perth team, delivering high-quality electrical design solutions for mining, resources, and heavy industrial projects.

You will lead design reviews, manage multidisciplinary deliverables, ensure compliance with AS/NZS and IEC standards, and mentor junior engineers while coordinating with vendors and stakeholders on complex assets across Australia and overseas.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Electrical Engineering is required.
• 10+ years' design engineering in mining/resources/heavy industry.
• Strong knowledge of power systems, PLC control, and field instrumentation.
• Chartered or working towards chartership is highly regarded.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to lead projects in complex operating environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and review of electrical and instrumentation systems.
• Ensure compliance with AS/NZS, IEC standards and client specs.
• Provide technical support for installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
• Coordinate engineering deliverables across multidisciplinary teams.
• Support maintenance strategies and asset lifecycle management.
• Conduct risk assessments and ensure safety requirements.
• Interface with vendors, contractors, and stakeholders to meet objectives.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers and technical personnel.
• Perform sizing calculations for cables, transformers, switchboards, arc flash and fault levels.
• Specify equipment for switchboards, VSDs, transformers, PLC hardware, distribution boards, switchgear.

Your Opportunity

We are seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team, supporting the delivery of high-quality engineering solutions across major projects and operational assets within the mining/industrial and utilities sectors.

This role will be based at our new Head Office on St Georges Tce, Perth. Adjacent to the train station, the City office has state of the art end of journey facilities, including secure storage for bicycles and scooters, a gym, tennis court, basketball hoop and a swimming pool available for all Primero employees.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and review of electrical and instrumentation systems, including power distribution, control systems, and field instrumentation
• Ensure compliance with applicable standards (e.g. AS/NZS, IEC) and client specifications
• Provide technical support for installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of E&I systems
• Manage and coordinate engineering deliverables across multidisciplinary teams
• Support maintenance strategies, reliability improvements, and asset lifecycle management
• Conduct risk assessments, hazard studies, and ensure adherence to safety requirements
• Interface with vendors, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met
• Mentor and guide junior engineers and technical personnel
• Calculations for sizing cables, transformers, switchboards, arc flash hazards and fault levels.
• Specify and select equipment for switchboards, VSDs, transformers, PLC hardware, distribution boards, switchgear

What You 'Can Do'

• Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (recognised by IEAust)
• 10+ years' design engineering experience in a mining, resources, or heavy industrial environment
• Strong knowledge of power systems, control systems (PLC), and field instrumentation
• Demonstrated understanding of relevant standards and engineering best practices
• Proven ability to lead projects and deliver outcomes in complex operating environments
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Chartered or working towards chartership is highly regarded
