Job summary

The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley is seeking an experienced Principal Planner to lead statutory and strategic town planning in the Kununurra area. Reporting to the Manager Planning and Regulatory Services, you will provide senior professional guidance, oversee complex planning matters, and drive a high-quality planning service across SWEK.

You will hold a tertiary planning qualification, have five-plus years in statutory and strategic planning, and possess strong leadership and stakeholder

Qualifications

• Requires tertiary qualification in town planning and substantial professional experience in statutory and strategic town planning (typically five or more years).
• Demonstrated senior-level experience in local government or equivalent regulatory environment.
• Excellent communication, negotiation, conflict resolution, decision-making, organisational and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the administration of the Shire’s Local Planning Scheme and land use planning functions in accordance with legislation, policies and delegations.
• Oversee assessment of development applications, including complex and significant proposals, subdivisions and strata title applications.
• Provide authoritative professional advice on statutory planning, development assessment and land use matters to the Manager, Council, staff, agencies and community.
• Prepare reports and recommendations for Council and external stakeholders on planning matters, including rezoning and development.
