Job summary

The University of Queensland, based at the St Lucia Campus, invites applications for a Principal Learning Designer. The role oversees educational technology adoption and pedagogical practice across the School of Economics, shaping curriculum, authentic assessment and flexible learning experiences.

Qualifications

  • A degree with at least four years of subsequent relevant experience in learning design, educational development, curriculum design, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.
  • Experience using contemporary Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard or Moodle at a designer, administrator or advanced user level.
  • Proven ability to lead learning design projects, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.

School of Economics within the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law. Full-time (100%) continuing position. Base salary will be in the range $106,709.01 - $116,198.52 + 17% super (HEW Level 7). Based at our vibrant St Lucia Campus.

About This Opportunity

We are seeking an innovative and experienced Principal Learning Designer to support academic staff across the School of Economics in designing engaging curriculum, authentic assessment, and active and flexible learning experiences that enhance teaching quality and student success. Working under broad direction and reporting to the School Manager, you will partner with academic colleagues and key stakeholders to champion contemporary pedagogical practice, drive the effective use of educational technologies, and contribute to a collaborative and purposeful culture focused on creating meaningful learning outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing leadership in the dissemination of educational technology and pedagogical expertise across the school.
  • Working collaboratively with academic colleagues to design, develop, implement and evaluate innovative curriculum, assessment and learning experiences across online, blended and face-to-face environments.
  • Advising and supporting academic staff in the effective application of learning design principles, e-learning technologies and contemporary teaching practices.
  • Identifying, promoting and embedding innovative approaches to teaching and learning that enhance the student experience and improve educational outcomes.
  • Provide support to professional and academic staff in developing and reviewing course profiles.
  • Provide support to monitor, develop and review assessment items for courses in the School in order to ensure quality and policy compliance.
  • Support the Director of Teaching and Learning in the collection of data that can be used for program reviews or other teaching and learning outcomes.
  • Support the School during the design of new teaching programs and courses, and the review of existing teaching programs and courses.
  • Develop skills and knowledge that can allow the School of Economics to be better strategically positioned in the teaching market.
  • Collect information on the School programs and how they are interconnected.
About You
  • A degree with at least four years of subsequent relevant experience in learning design, educational development, curriculum design, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how students learn, with experience developing innovative learning, teaching and assessment approaches across online, blended or classroom environments.
  • Experience using contemporary Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard or Moodle at a designer, administrator or advanced user level.
  • Proven ability to lead learning design projects, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.
  • A self-driven and proactive approach, with the ability to work autonomously, identify opportunities and engage with stakeholders to understand their needs and develop tailored learning solutions.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and provide strategic and practical advice on pedagogical and educational technology matters.
  • Experience developing learning resources, tools, templates or processes that enhance the quality and efficiency of teaching and learning.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and collaboration with learning design colleagues across the University, contributing to a broader community of practice.
