Job summary

Our client, a Federal Government Agency in Canberra, is seeking a Principal Java Software Engineer to support a life-critical application. Hybrid onsite/remote work is available in Australia. Baseline security clearance is required before commencement.

You will work with a small, skilled team of Java and .NET developers to deliver enterprise-grade software solutions. You will design, develop, and maintain Java/Oracle/AWS components, enhance UIs with ReactJS, and lead documentation and design

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of Java development experience with enterprise design patterns, JPA/Hibernate, Java EE, and reactive programming.
• Proficient in SOAP/REST APIs, XML/JSON, and Spring/SpringBoot frameworks.
• Experience in Unix/Linux environments and scripting (Bash).
• Strong database skills including Oracle data modeling and stored procedures.
• Hands-on experience with AWS components (EC2, Lambda, API Gateway, S3, SQS, CloudFormation).
• Ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation for critical system support.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop enterprise-level software using Java, Oracle, AWS technologies, and Java EE components.
• Maintain and enhance web-based UIs using ReactJS, CSS, and HTML.
• Design and implement data models within Oracle Database, using Hibernate ORM.
• Create and manage RESTful and SOAP web services, including OpenAPI specs and XML schemas.
• Build and support DevOps workflows with Jenkins, Git, Maven, and Ant.
• Produce comprehensive design documentation and technical specifications.
• Provide expert advice to senior IT leadership and ensure system reliability via on-call rotations.

As a Principal Java Software Engineer, you will play a vital role in supporting, maintaining, and enhancing the cloud and back-end Java/AWS/Oracle components of the system. You will collaborate closely with a small but highly skilled team of Java and .NET developers, leveraging your extensive experience to deliver enterprise-grade software solutions that enable operational excellence.

Key responsibilities include:
