Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Principal Fire Protection Engineer to drive design and delivery on major building and infrastructure projects in Australia. The role sits between senior and associate director level, focusing on leadership, client engagement, and technical delivery while remaining hands-on in design and review.

You will work within a national team handling defence, education, health, commercial, aviation and other sectors, ensuring robust fire protection solutions and career growth

Qualifications

• 9+ years in Fire Protection/Services Engineering in consultancy or government/contractor environments.
• Experience leading medium to large multi-disciplinary projects and coordinating teams.
• Strong technical capability across fire suppression, water, detection, EWIS systems (wet and dry).
• Proven ability to manage client relationships and contribute to bids.
• Engineering degree with professional accreditation or eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Lead fire protection design and delivery across complex projects from concept through construction.
• Provide high-level technical input across wet/dry systems (hydrants, sprinklers, suppression, detection).
• Oversee design compliance with NCC and Australian Standards for safety and quality.
• Act as a key client interface, support project acquisition and business development.
• Mentor engineers and foster technical capability within the team.
• Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, structural, and specialist teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Contribute to discipline strategy, standards, and continuous improvement.
