Job summary

Eden Ritchie Recruitment is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer (Civil) to join a Queensland Government department in Nerang. You will lead road infrastructure maintenance, rehabilitation and safety projects across the South Coast Region, ensuring high standards and on-time delivery.

You will provide high-level engineering expertise, oversee construction contracts, manage budgets and schedules, and coordinate with stakeholders to resolve issues and improve road network safety.

Contract Length: 12 months + possible extension

Eden Ritchie Recruitment are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer (Civil) to join a Queensland Government Department located in Nerang.

Working within the Preservation and Maintenance team, this position will play a key role in delivering road infrastructure maintenance, rehabilitation and safety improvement projects across the South Coast Region.

The successful candidate will provide high-level engineering expertise, oversee construction contracts and manage project delivery to ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with relevant technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the planning, design and construction delivery of road infrastructure maintenance, rehabilitation and safety projects.
• Act as the Representative of the Principal for construction contracts, overseeing contractor performance, compliance and project outcomes.
• Manage tender preparation, evaluation, procurement and contract award processes.
• Provide specialist civil engineering advice on design suitability, construction methodologies, materials and technical issues.
• Monitor project progress, expenditure, forecasting and reporting to ensure delivery within scope, time and budget.
• Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards, environmental requirements, safety obligations and legislation.
• Lead and coordinate engineering resources, contractors and technical personnel to support successful project delivery.
• Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors and external parties to resolve project issues and maintain operational outcomes.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

• Extensive civil engineering experience, ideally within road construction, rehabilitation, maintenance or transport infrastructure.
• Proven experience managing road infrastructure projects through design, procurement, construction and completion.
• Strong construction contract administration and project management capabilities.
• Experience managing contractors, assessing tenders and overseeing construction quality, safety and environmental compliance.
• Sound technical knowledge of road construction practices, engineering standards and project delivery methodologies.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, project schedules, risks and competing priorities.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and leadership skills.

Mandatory Requirements

• Current Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) registration.
• Four-year Bachelor of Engineering (Civil), accredited under the Washington Accord, or an equivalent qualification accepted by Engineers Australia.
• Current C Class driver's licence.
• Construction Industry White Card.
