Job summary

Allura Partners is seeking a Principal Data Engineer in Sydney to own the architecture and performance of an on-premises data platform. You will work directly with the Director of Data and senior tech leadership to drive the data estate end-to-end.

This senior individual contributor role emphasizes hands-on data engineering, governance and platform reliability, with a focus on SQL Server and Python pipelines within a healthcare transformation program.

Qualifications

• Proven senior data engineering experience, ideally with on-premises environments.
• Strong hands-on SQL Server expertise, including T-SQL and performance tuning.
• Strong Python skills for data engineering and pipeline development.
• Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory for orchestration.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture, build and ongoing performance of on-premises data pipelines and databases end to end.
• Design, build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines using SQL Server, Python and Azure Data Factory.
• Establish and maintain data governance policies, monitoring data quality and integrity across on-prem systems.
• Oversee design, implementation and maintenance of on-premises SQL Server databases.
• Partner across technology and operations to ensure data systems align with organisational goals and compliance standards.

Our client is a privately held healthcare organization, operating clinics & hospitals across Australia. They're undergoing a major technology transformation to reimagine the patient and clinician experience through data, AI and digital innovation.

About The Role

Reporting directly to the Director of Data, this is a senior individual contributor role with no people leadership component. You'll be the primary technical authority within the data function, owning the architecture, build and performance of the business's on-premises data platform end to end, partnering closely with the Director and senior technology leaders.
