The role drives high-level technical direction, design compliance, and project leadership for local government and private infrastructure sectors.

The candidate will mentor designers, coordinate multi-disciplinary work, and help shape project outcomes in a dynamic, flexible environment based in Perth CBD.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of civil design experience in professional services.
  • Broad exposure to civil, structural, resources or geotechnical projects.
  • Experience servicing WA government and private infrastructure clients.

Responsibilities

  • Design multidisciplinary civil projects and ensure drawings comply with standards.
  • Provide high level technical support for design drawings.
  • Direct preparation of preliminary and detailed designs per project scope.
  • Prepare construction documentation and specifications for design works.
  • Plan schedules and allocate resources to meet timelines and budget.
  • Ensure compliance with Australian Codes and design standards.
  • Mentor and train junior designers to promote technical excellence.

About the Role

We are seeking a Principal Civil Designer with 10+ years’ experience to join our WA design team. The primary purpose of this position is to provide high level technical support and direction in relation to design services for engineering projects including civil, structural, resources, geotechnical and other specialisations of engineering. For the right candidate, there is an opportunity to step into a Discipline Lead position, responsible for the Western Australian design team and will contribute to projects including local government and private infrastructure sectors.

You will be responsible for

  • Design of multi-disciplinary complex civil projects, ensuring design drawings for engineering project work comply with statutory and regulatory requirements and company policies and practices
  • Providing high level technical support for all design drawings for engineering project work
  • Directing preparation of preliminary and detailed designs for engineering projects in line with parameters set out in project scope of works
  • Preparation of construction documentation and specifications for design works
  • Preparing schedules and allocating resources to enable design drawings for engineering projects to be completed on time and within budget
  • Ensuring compliance with specifications, design standards and Australian Codes to enhance quality design
  • Promoting a culture of technical excellence through mentoring and training less experienced designers
  • Supporting and approving associated technical work directly related to the discipline
  • Playing an active role in the business groups through regular meetings, workshops, training and business planning
What do we need from you

Ideally, you will have 10+ years of experience in civil design within a professional services or consultancy environment servicing private and public sector clients in Western Australia. In addition, you will also have:

  • Associate Degree or Advanced Diploma of Civil Engineering (or equivalent qualification) or significant experience as a senior civil designer
  • Valid full drivers license
  • Design of multi-disciplinary projects using 12D and Autocad
  • Exposure to Microstation and CADconform
  • Experience supporting and approving associated technical work directly related to the discipline and in project management capacities
  • A thorough understanding of civil design principles pertaining to land development, storm water, flood modelling, civil infrastructure or roads (preferred disciplines)
  • Familiarity with local and national design and drawing standards
  • Strong client management capabilities
  • People leadership experience, preferred but not mandatory
  • Willingness to coach junior designers with advice on solutions and develop fit-for-purpose solutions to engineering problems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to participate in business develop activities as needed
