TAL Australia in Sydney is seeking a Principal Engineer, AI & Emerging Technology to shape AI capabilities across the enterprise. You will lead design and implementation of innovative AI solutions spanning generative AI, agentic systems and production ML, collaborating with delivery teams to solve complex challenges.

You will create reference architectures, reusable patterns, and technical standards to ensure secure, reliable, and compliant outcomes in a regulated life-insurance environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software, AI/ML or data engineering roles with production AI at scale.
• Proven experience as principal-level or senior technical leader across teams.
• Deep expertise in generative AI, LLM-based and agentic systems.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Azure, APIs and containerized deployments.
• Proficient in Python and modern engineering practices.
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD, automated testing and observability.

Responsabilités

• Set the technical direction and reference architectures for AI across the portfolio.
• Own design decisions in partnership with Architecture to align with strategy.
• Provide technical assurance on high-risk designs.
• Collaborate with delivery pods on complex engineering problems.
• Define and evolve engineering standards, patterns and best practices for AI.
• Champion reuse of AI platforms, gateways and governance tooling.
• Identify and address technical risks including model risk and data privacy.
• Stay at the forefront of AI advances and evaluate new technologies.
