Job summary

Forefront Recruitment is seeking a capable pre-construction professional in Melbourne to bridge estimating and project delivery across multiple projects.

You will support cost planning, design coordination, scopes of work, RFIs and approvals through development and construction.

Working with an experienced construction director, you will advance your career beyond tendering while contributing to site delivery and client liaison.

Job description

It can be hard to break out of the pre-con side of the construction phase. This is a rare opportunity to do so.

This opportunity allows you to use your estimating or design coordination experience while developing across the complete project cycle. Working directly with an experienced construction director, you will support several projects from the initial brief and development phase through design, approvals, construction and completion.

Rather than spending your career moving from one tender to the next, you will see how projects develop after the estimate is complete. You will contribute to scopes of work, cost planning, project programmes, design coordination, RFIs, consultant management and statutory approvals before remaining involved as projects progress onto site.

The business is an established commercial builder delivering fit-outs, new builds and developments across Melbourne and Geelong. Its directors remain closely involved, giving you access to the experience, guidance and decision-making that can be difficult to find within a larger construction business.

This role is designed as a genuine bridge between estimating and project delivery. It suits someone who already understands the commercial foundations of a project and is ready to build experience across design coordination, development, approvals and construction.

You must currently be working within the commercial construction industry and have practical experience in estimating, cost planning or pre-construction. You will also need a completed tertiary qualification in Construction Management, Project Management, Architecture, Building Design, Quantity Surveying or another relevant construction discipline.

You should understand how commercial projects are priced and delivered, including scopes, subcontractor engagement, construction methodology, project risk and cost control. Experience with Microsoft Project, Excel and construction management or cost control software will be valuable.

As the role involves regular contact with clients, consultants, councils, statutory authorities, subcontractors and suppliers, you will need to be polished, presentable and confident communicating with different stakeholders.

You may have completed a Diploma of Project Management or developed your knowledge through practical industry experience rather than a construction management degree.
