Job summary

Hitachi Energy Australia Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Lead Project Engineer to oversee and manage complex power generation and transmission projects. You will lead technical aspects from conceptual design through commissioning, ensuring delivery within scope, budget, and schedule.

The role requires 8–10 years in project engineering in power, with leadership experience and strong knowledge of power systems. Travel to project sites will be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Master's degree preferred.
• 8–10 years of experience in project engineering within power generation, transmission, or distribution.
• Proven leadership or senior engineering experience delivering complex projects.
• In-depth knowledge of power systems including generation, substations, and grid infrastructure.
• Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools; PMP certification desirable.
• Strong understanding of Australian and international engineering standards and regulations.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills, with diverse stakeholders.
• Able to work independently and in fast-paced environments.
• Willingness to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the technical execution of assigned projects, ensuring compliance with specifications and standards.
• Develop and review engineering designs, specifications, and documentation; mentor team members.
• Coordinate with internal departments and external clients, contractors, and suppliers.
• Conduct technical risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
• Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources; address deviations.
• Serve as primary technical contact for clients and build relationships.
• Oversee testing, commissioning, and handover to meet performance requirements.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and execution methodologies.
• Prepare technical reports and project updates for senior management.
