The University of Sydney invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join an ARC Linkage Project focused on oat rust resistance. The role centres on genetic analysis, plant pathology, and genomics within the School of Life and Environmental Sciences.

Applicants should have a PhD in plant genetics/genomics or related field, with experience in recombinant DNA and bioinformatics, and a track record in publishing in ISI-ranked journals. Fixed-term, located at Camden Campus.

Qualifications

• PhD completed in plant genetics/genomics or related field.
• Experience with recombinant DNA technologies (primer design, cloning).
• Knowledge of bioinformatics (BLAST, SNP calling, GWAS).
• Experience with plant pathogens and cereal pathology.

Responsibilities

• undertake research to identify and characterise genetic sources of crown rust resistance in oat germplasm
• generate high-quality greenhouse and field phenotypic and genotypic datasets to support resistance loci and candidate genes
• analyse genetic and disease-screening data using quantitative-genetic, statistical and genomic approaches
• deliver research outcomes and milestones per ARC Linkage project plan
• plan and undertake controlled-environment and field experiments to phenotype oat germplasm for crown rust resistance
• apply established disease-screening protocols including assessment of disease severity and resistance responses
• collaborate with investigators, breeding organisations, industry partners and ARC Linkage collaborators
