Job summary

The University of Sydney invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Oat Crown Rust Genetics at its Camden Campus. This full-time, fixed-term role runs until 30 June 2030, supporting an ARC Linkage project to advance disease resistance in Australian oats.

You will join a collaborative team in the School of Life and Environmental Sciences, contribute to genetic discovery, and publish in ISI ranked journals.

Qualifications

• PhD in plant genetics/genomics or related field.
• Experience in recombinant DNA technologies (primer design, cloning).
• Knowledge of bioinformatics (BLAST, SNP calling, GWAS).
• Experience in plant hybridisation, pre-breeding, disease scoring in greenhouse/field.
• Postdoctoral experience with ISI-ranked publications.
• Experience handling plant pathogens, especially biotrophs, cereal pathology/genetics.
• Experience developing research projects, including protocols, ethics submissions and grants.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Identify and characterize genetic sources of crown rust resistance in oat germplasm.
• Generate high-quality greenhouse and field phenotypic and genotypic datasets.
• Analyse genetic and disease data using quantitative-genetic and genomic approaches.
• Deliver research outcomes and milestones per ARC Linkage project plan.
• Plan and undertake controlled-environment and field-based experiments to phenotype oat germplasm and breeding populations.
• Collaborate with Chief Investigator, university researchers, breeding organisations, industry partners and ARC Linkage collaborators.
