About the Role

You will be working at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH). It is one of the nation’s most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history of serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities. Our facilities and services are world class and our staff are dedicated, innovative and caring.

The role of a General Porter is to transport all Patients and equipment across RPAH using the most appropriate mode of transport. Our focus is to ensure the comfort, safety and dignity of patients during transportation and to deliver a professional service in line with our CORE Values. The General Porters service enhances Patient Flow by delivering on the expectation of timely movement of patients throughout the hospital.

This position will be working within a 24/7 department and staff will be required to work a rotating roster including night shifts.

• Ability to read and understand written directions.
• Ability to work all shifts on a 24/7 rotational roster and be adaptable to changes in scheduling to meet hospital demands.
• Knowledge of safe working practices and compliance with appropriate safety policies and procedures.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clinical staff members, patients and families in a professional and courteous manner.
• Ability to meet the physical requirement of the position including manual handling and walking distances.
• Allocated Day Off (ADO) each month (for full time employees), paid parental leave and annual leave loading.
