Job summary

City of Yarra is seeking a Fixed Term Casual Lifeguard for the summer season at Yarra Leisure. The role offers a 42.00 AUD per hour rate plus superannuation and a supportive team focused on safety and guest experience.

Key duties include supervising aquatic facilities, intervening when needed, enforcing pool safety rules, coordinating on major incident response, and helping maintain a welcoming environment for all patrons.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality professional lifeguarding services to all patrons within City of Yarra’s Leisure centres.
• Supervise aquatic facilities to ensure user safety.
• Intervene and take preventative actions to protect patrons and facilities.
• Enforce pool safety rules including Swim Safe policies and sauna/spa rules.
• Identify and lead major incident response procedures for aquatic areas.
• Monitor patron behaviour and uphold the code of conduct.
• Apply conflict management to ensure safety and respectful interactions.

The advertised position is for a fixed term contract for our summer season only November 1, 2026 - March 31, 2027. On-going positions will require reapplication.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

To provide high-quality professional lifeguarding services to all patrons and customers within City of Yarra’s Leisure centres;

• Provide effective supervision of aquatic facilities to ensure the safety of all facility users.
• Perform intervention and preventative actions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of patrons, the facility and equipment.
• Enforce and educate all customers on pool safety rules and policies. Including but not limited to ‘Watch Around Water’ policy and the sauna, spa & steam rules.
• Identify and lead Major Incident response procedures for aquatic area major incidents.
• Evacuate pools and assist with major incident response for major incidents in other areas of the facility.
• To monitor patron behaviour ensuring all patrons adhere to the Yarra Leisure code of conduct.
• Immediately implement conflict management principles including difficult but honest conversations with patrons to ensure all patrons are safe at all times.
