Job summary

The NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure is seeking a Policy and Project Officer to help shape land and natural resource policy across the state. You will support policy development, legislation, programs and strategic initiatives, working with subject matter experts, agencies, industry stakeholders and senior decision-makers.

This ongoing full-time role is based in Newcastle (preferred) with other NSW office locations considered.

Qualifications

• Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate complex information clearly.
• Experience preparing reports, briefs, or policy advice.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and contribute to multiple projects.
• Interest in public policy, land management, environmental, natural resource, or government-related issues.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development and implementation of policy initiatives, legislation, reviews, programs, and services.
• Research, analyse, and evaluate policy options to support informed decision-making.
• Prepare high-quality briefs, discussion papers, reports, and policy advice for senior executives, Ministers, and key stakeholders.
• Work collaboratively on projects that improve policy delivery and support strategic objectives.
• Build effective relationships with government agencies, industry groups, and peak bodies.
• Support Cabinet, legislative, and regulatory programs across the Division.
