Job summary

Cleared is seeking a Platforms Infrastructure Architect in Canberra to lead design and delivery of highly available, secure ICT infrastructure for classified environments. You will drive architectural governance, collaborate with project teams and senior stakeholders, and ensure alignment with security and PSPF requirements.

The role is 100% onsite with up to 40 hours per week, starting September 2026, and contract term to 30 June 2027 with extensions. NV2 clearance or eligibility is required.

Qualifications

• Infrastructure and platform architecture experience in large/complex environments.
• Secure systems and information security controls.
• Network architecture and design.
• Governance of solution architectures and decision records.
• Stakeholder engagement and workshop facilitation.
• Risk assessment and mitigation in enterprise ICT.
• Experience with government or sensitive environments is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop ICT platform and server infrastructure solutions.

• Lead stakeholder workshops to gather requirements and define future-state infrastructure.
• Provide expert advice on infrastructure architecture, security and operational best practice.
• Support capacity planning, availability management and continuous improvement.
• Act as senior escalation point for complex incidents and architectural issues.
• Develop architecture artefacts, technical designs and security documentation.
• Produce high-level and detailed designs and as-built documentation.
• Develop operating procedures and standard operating procedures.
• Contribute to incident reporting and ICT security authorisation.
• Support knowledge transfer activities and mentoring of staff.

Cleared are partnered with the Department of Home Affairs to identify an experienced Platforms Infrastructure Architect to support the Classified Systems Delivery (CSD) Section. This is a highly visible opportunity working on critical national capabilities supporting Home Affairs, the Australian Border Force, and other Commonwealth agencies.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the modernisation of classified ICT systems, providing architecture leadership across infrastructure, server platforms, security, capacity management and operational support.

About the Role

As the Platforms Infrastructure Architect, you will design, build and evolve highly available ICT infrastructure supporting classified government environments. You will work closely with project teams, operational stakeholders and technical specialists to deliver secure and resilient platform and server solutions.
You will provide specialist architecture advice, facilitate workshops, produce technical documentation and act as a senior escalation point for complex infrastructure issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop ICT platform and server infrastructure solutions.
• Ensure solutions align with the Information Security Manual (ISM), ASD Essential Eight and Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
• Lead stakeholder workshops to gather requirements and define future-state infrastructure solutions.
• Provide expert advice on infrastructure architecture, security and operational best practice.
• Support capacity planning, availability management and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Act as a senior escalation point for complex technical incidents and operational issues.Develop and maintain architecture artefacts, technical designs and security documentation.
• Produce high-level designs, detailed designs and as-built documentation.
• Develop operational procedures, technical support documentation and standard operating procedures.
• Contribute to incident reporting and ICT security authorisation documentation.
• Support knowledge transfer activities and mentoring of departmental staff.

Technical Requirements

We are seeking architects with strong experience across:

• VMware platforms and virtualisation technologies
• Windows Server environments
• Enterprise infrastructure architecture
• Data centre technologies
• Backup and disaster recovery solutions
• Monitoring and infrastructure operations
• High availability and resilience design
• Security-focused infrastructure design
• Technical documentation and governance

Experience across additional hypervisor platforms will be highly regarded.

About the Team

The Classified Systems Delivery Section delivers and supports Secret-classified ICT services for the Department of Home Affairs and a range of Australian and New Zealand Government agencies. The team supports critical national security, law enforcement, maritime and emergency response capabilities within a highly secure operational environment.
