Job summary

Jobtailor in Sydney, NSW is seeking an experienced Platform Engineer to own and optimize our GitLab CI/CD pipelines across multiple regions. You will migrate legacy deployments to per-repository pipelines, run parallel cutovers, and validate migrations with live traffic to ensure service health.

You will document decisions and contribute to tooling and templates for scalable deployment. The role involves collaboration with a hands-on team, supporting ~250 active repositories across Lambda, ECS

Qualifications

• Deep experience with GitLab CI/CD including multi-stage pipelines and self-hosted runners.
• AWS CodeDeploy with canary/blue-green deployments and automated rollback.
• Multi-region orchestration across Lambda, ECS Fargate and EC2.
• Strong IAM cross-account roles knowledge and CloudFormation/SSM Parameter Store.
• Experience delivering migrations or modernisation in live production.
• Shell scripting and AWS CLI fluency.
• Ability to build pipelines for AI-assisted and agent-driven workflows.
• AWS CDK experience in TypeScript or Python.
• Experience migrating from legacy CI/CD systems with parallel run and cutover.
• Knowledge of .NET build pipelines and deployment packaging.
• DORA metrics and deployment frequency observability.

Responsibilities

Job description

• Build and ship GitLab CI/CD pipelines service by service
• Implement CodeDeploy canary deployments, multi-region orchestration with manual gates, automated rollback on CloudWatch alarms and smoke tests
• Migrate services from the legacy deployment system to self-contained per-repository pipelines
• Run old and new pipelines in parallel for zero-risk cutover
• Validate migrations against live production traffic and confirm service health
• Complete pre-migration audits to identify what to retain, redesign or remove
• Make pragmatic engineering decisions within the agreed architecture and Pipeline Construction Standard
• Coordinate with development teams on production deployment windows
• Validate environment configurations so teams can verify services after migration
• Document decisions, issues and fixes in repositories
• Improve the Pipeline Construction Standard and reference patterns
• Contribute to shared GitLab CI templates, CDK construct libraries and self-service tooling
• Work within a hands-on team of 4–6 engineers alongside the Lead Platform Engineer
• Support deployment experiences for approximately 250 active repositories across Lambda, ECS Fargate, ECS Windows, EC2 and S3/CloudFront in four production regions

Requirements

• Deep experience with GitLab CI/CD, including multi-stage pipelines, environments, manual gates, shared templates and self-hosted runners
• AWS CodeDeploy experience with canary/blue-green deployments and automated rollback
• Multi-region orchestration across Lambda, ECS/Fargate and EC2
• Solid working knowledge of IAM cross-account roles, CloudFormation and SSM Parameter Store
• Track record delivering a migration or modernisation program in a live production environment
• Strong shell scripting and AWS CLI fluency
• Ability to build pipelines supporting AI-assisted and agent-driven workflows
• AWS CDK experience in TypeScript or Python
• Experience migrating away from legacy CI/CD systems, including parallel running and flag-based cutover
• Experience with .NET build pipelines, including dotnet publish and zip packaging
• Knowledge of DORA metrics and deployment frequency observability
• Developer experience design, self-service tooling, repository templates and internal platform thinking
• AWS certifications such as DevOps Engineer Professional or Solutions Architect are desirable
