Job summary

Moree Plains Shire Council is seeking an experienced Plant Operator to safely operate stabilisers and associated road construction equipment within the Moree region.

You’ll perform pre-start inspections, maintain plant, meet productivity targets, and support council road maintenance programs while working with a team committed to safety and community outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Experience safely operating a stabiliser and associated road construction or maintenance plant.
  • Good knowledge of plant operation, pre-start inspections and routine maintenance.
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision, show initiative and meet operational timeframes.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Practical literacy and numeracy skills to complete plant records, pre-starts, timesheets and other documentation.
  • A sound understanding of Work Health and Safety and safe work practices.
  • A current Class C Driver Licence and White Card.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a stabiliser and related plant to undertake road construction, rehabilitation and maintenance activities across the Moree Plains Shire.
  • Carry out routine pre-start inspections and preventative maintenance of plant and equipment.
  • Meet productivity targets and work within agreed timeframes to support the delivery of Council's road maintenance and construction program.
  • Immediately cease operating plant where a mechanical fault is identified and report defects.
  • Operate plant in accordance with Safe Operating Procedures and WHS requirements.
  • Liaise with the Superintendent and Ganger regarding progress and issues affecting service delivery.
  • Assist in monitoring the quality of completed works and ensure they meet specifications.

The Opportunity

Play a vital role in strengthening local road networks and improving connectivity across the region while operating specialised equipment to deliver safer, more durable roads.

Responsibilities include:

  • Safely and efficiently operate a stabiliser and associated plant to undertake road construction, rehabilitation and maintenance activities across the Moree Plains Shire.
  • Carry out routine pre-start inspections and preventative maintenance of plant and equipment, ensuring machinery is maintained in a safe, serviceable and operational condition.
  • Meet productivity targets and work within agreed timeframes to support the delivery of Council's road maintenance and construction program.
  • Immediately cease operating plant where a mechanical fault or defect is identified and promptly report all defects to the Workshop for assessment and repair.
  • Operate plant and equipment in accordance with Council's Safe Operating Procedures, relevant legislation and all Work Health and Safety requirements.
  • Liaise with and provide accurate and timely information to the Superintendent and Ganger regarding work progress, operational issues, plant performance and other matters affecting service delivery.
  • Assist in monitoring the quality of completed works and ensure work is undertaken in accordance with relevant specifications, work instructions and Council standards.
  • Ensure work tasks are carried out with minimal disruption to the community and maintain positive customer and stakeholder relationships.
About You

You are an experienced and safety-focused Plant Operator who takes pride in operating machinery safely and efficiently. You are reliable, practical and enjoy working as part of a team to deliver quality road construction and maintenance outcomes.

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
