Job summary

St John of God South West Community Alcohol and Drug Service (SWCADS) in Bunbury is seeking a Peer Support Worker to join our Social Outreach team on a permanent part-time basis.

You will draw on your lived experience to support individuals, provide recovery-focused guidance and help people access services. A Cert IV in a related field and a WA driver’s licence are essential; position offers 22.8 hours per week with salary between $71,352 and $77,022 plus 12% superannuation.

St John of God South West Community Alcohol and Drug Service (SWCADS)

provides free, evidence-based alcohol and other drug support services across Western Australia's South West region.

Through a compassionate, person-centred approach, we help individuals and families better understand, reduce and address harmful alcohol and drug use. We recognise that substance use can impact all aspects of life, including health, relationships, employment, family and community wellbeing.

Our multidisciplinary team delivers holistic, non-judgemental care focused on recovery, hope and positive outcomes. Working closely with GPs, hospitals, mental health services, schools, justice agencies, local governments and community organisations, we ensure people can access the right support, at the right time.

About The Role

We are seeking applications for a Peer Support Worker to join our Social Outreach team in Bunbury, on a permanent part-time basis.

Working as a Peer Support Worker, you will provide the highest level of support to individuals who are provided with a service by South-West Community Alcohol and Drug Services (SWCADS). This will be achieved through the implementation of services and programs that are flexible and individualised in response to each person being supported.

We value lived experience and see peer support as crucial part of the AOD recovery. Our Peer Support Worker roles are designed for individuals ready to share their journey to guide and inspire others AOD issues. Your insights will be vital in shaping understanding, enhancing our services, and ensuring we provide person‑led, strengths‑focused, recovery‑oriented support.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in a range of appropriate programs and activities aimed at increasing the individual’s skills, knowledge and improve access to required services in the community.
• Provide the highest level of support for individuals supported and ensure each person supported is treated with respect that enhances their personal worth, dignity and rights, at all times.
• Assist in achieving individual’s, team and service goals and objectives.
• Seek ways of improving the service standards through working closely with clinical care givers, AOD prevention staff, line managers and contributing to meetings.
• Maintain a high level of service provision for all individuals and ensure the health, wellbeing and safety of all people supported and staff is maintained at all times.
• Support the identified needs of individuals in relation to their particular life circumstances.

To be successfully shortlisted, applicants will have a Certificate IV or above in a related field (Community Services, AOD, Mental Health) with lived experience.

Successful applicants must hold a valid WA drivers’ licence, Working with Children Check and National Police Clearance.
