Job summary

The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne invites applications for an experienced Infectious Diseases physician to join the ID Department and contribute to excellence in clinical care, antimicrobial stewardship, education, quality improvement, and research across the Melbourne Children’s Campus.

You will lead on-call consultations, supervise Fellows and junior staff, and participate in AMS activities, guideline development, and hospital governance.

Qualifications

• Registered medical practitioner with AHPRA.
• FRACP or equivalent.
• Specialist training in Infectious Diseases with recognition by RACP/APHRA as a Paediatric Infectious Diseases Physician.
• Demonstrated expertise in the clinical management of complex paediatric infectious diseases, including care of immunocompromised patients.
• Higher research degree (Masters, MPH, PhD) or progress toward one.
• Experience developing clinical guidelines, quality initiatives, or service improvement innovation.
• Clinical trial research experience

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary point of contact for Infectious Diseases consultations during on-call periods.
• Lead daily inpatient ward rounds with the multidisciplinary team.
• Provide supervision, mentoring, and clinical oversight for Fellows, Registrars, Junior Medical Staff and medical students.
• Oversee the accurate and timely documentation of assessments, ward rounds, management plans and clinical outcomes.
• Review and manage patients referred to ID outpatient clinics.
• Actively participate in Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) activities, including antimicrobial review, audit, feedback, and stewardship initiatives.
• Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of evidence-based clinical guidelines, policies, and care pathways.
• Represent the Infectious Diseases Department on hospital committees, working groups and governance structures.
• Support and lead departmental quality improvement initiatives, service evaluation, and patient safety programs.
