Job summary

The Royal Children’s Hospital Infectious Diseases Department seeks a highly qualified clinician to lead clinical care, antimicrobial stewardship, education, and research across the Melbourne Children’s Campus.

Join a multidisciplinary team to provide expert infectious diseases input, supervise trainees, participate in AMS activities, and contribute to evidence-based guidelines and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Registered medical practitioner with AHPRA.
• FRACP or equivalent.
• Specialist training in Infectious Diseases with recognition by RACP/APHRA as a Paediatric Infectious Diseases Physician.
• Demonstrated expertise in the clinical management of complex paediatric infectious diseases, including care of immunocompromised patients.
• Higher research degree (Masters, MPH, PhD) or progress toward one.
• Experience developing clinical guidelines, quality initiatives, or service improvement innovation.
• Clinical trial research experience

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary point of contact for Infectious Diseases consultations during on-call periods.
• Lead daily inpatient ward rounds with the multidisciplinary team, ensuring high-quality clinical decision making and shared learning.
• Provide supervision, mentoring, and clinical oversight for Fellows, Registrars, Junior Medical Staff and medical students.
• Oversee the accurate and timely documentation of assessments, ward rounds, management plans and outcomes in the medical record.
• Review and manage patients referred to Infectious Diseases outpatient clinics, ensuring continuity of care.
• Actively participate in Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) activities, including antimicrobial review, audit, feedback, and stewardship initiatives.
• Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of evidence-based clinical guidelines, policies, and care pathways.
• Represent the Infectious Diseases Department on hospital committees and governance structures.
• Support and lead quality improvement initiatives, service evaluation, and patient safety programs.
