Job summary

Torres Strait Island Regional Council is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Officer to support accurate, timely payroll delivery. Reporting to the Payroll Coordinator, you will ensure employees are paid correctly in compliance with legislation, awards and superannuation requirements.

The role provides high-level payroll processing support, assists with fortnightly and special pay runs, maintains records, and covers for the Payroll Coordinator during absences.

Qualifications

• Experience in payroll processing and administration within a medium to large organisation.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in a deadline driven environment.
• Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, local government awards, industrial relations legislation and payroll compliance requirements.
• Well-developed organisational and time management skills.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters professionally.
• A collaborative approach and the flexibility to provide payroll coverage and support when required.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-level payroll processing support, assist with Fortnightly and special pay runs, and maintain accurate payroll records.
• Maintain reporting and payroll documentation in line with statutory and organizational requirements.
• Provide full coverage for the Payroll Coordinator during planned and unplanned absences.
• Act as a central point of contact for payroll related enquiries from employees across Council.
