Job summary

Melton Christian College is seeking a dedicated Payroll Officer to join our Finance & Risk Team. You will manage end-to-end payroll, ensure accuracy and timeliness, and support compliance with Awards and superannuation requirements.

Ideal candidates will have prior payroll experience in education, qualifications in Accounting/Finance, and familiarity with ELMO payroll. You will contribute to our mission-driven community and maintain high standards of integrity and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in end-to-end payroll processing, preferably in education.
• Hold relevant Accounting/Finance/Business qualifications or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrate alignment with the College's Christian ethos and values.
• Knowledge of payroll legislation, taxation and superannuation requirements.
• Experience with ELMO payroll is desirable and advantageous.
• Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Manage end-to-end payroll processes ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Oversee onboarding, changes, and final payments across staff lifecycles.
• Maintain payroll records and data integrity in the system.
• Support compliance with Awards, legislation, superannuation, and policies.
• Handle payroll reporting, reconciliations, and audits.
• Contribute to salary budgeting and payroll related analyses.
• Provide guidance to employees on payroll processes, entitlements, and deductions.
• Process leave requests and update records accordingly.
• Collaborate with Finance and HR to improve payroll delivery.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Finance Manager and working closely with other key stakeholders, the Payroll Officer is responsible for delivering a professional and employee focused payroll service across the College.

As a valued member of our team, you will:

• Manage the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.
• Oversee payroll administration throughout the employee lifecycle, including onboarding, employment changes, and final payments.
• Maintain payroll records, employee data, and payroll systems to ensure accuracy, compliance, and data integrity.
• Support payroll compliance with Awards, employment legislation, superannuation obligations, and College policies.
• Manage payroll reporting, reconciliations, and audit requirements.
• Contribute to salary budgeting, workforce reporting, and payroll related analysis.
• Provide professional guidance and support to employees regarding payroll processes, leave entitlements, deductions, and payroll systems.
• Receive and process staff absence notifications, ensuring timely recording and actioning of leave requirements and updating documentation into leave applications.
• Partner with Finance and Human Resources to continually improve payroll processes and service delivery.
• Contribute positively to the culture, mission, and community of Melton Christian College.

About You

The successful candidate will:

• Have demonstrated experience in end-to-end payroll processing within the education sector or a similarly complex environment is desirable.
• Hold relevant qualifications in Accounting, Finance, Business, or demonstrate equivalent industry experience.
• Demonstrate alignment with the Christian ethos and expression of faith of the College.
• Possess strong knowledge of payroll legislation, Awards interpretation, taxation, and superannuation requirements.
• Previous experience working with ELMO payroll and accounting systems is desirable.
• Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Be highly organised with strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Possess well developed communication and relationship building skills.
• Maintain the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
