Job description

This is an opportunity to join a large and complex Canberra organisation that plays an important role in supporting the local community.

With a focus on delivering reliable services and maintaining high standards, the organisation offers a collaborative environment where accuracy, continuous improvement and strong customer service are valued.

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically capable Payroll Administrator who enjoys working with data, solving problems and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.

Working closely with an experienced Pay and Conditions team and an external managed payroll provider, you will provide hands-on payroll administration support across a broad range of activities.

Your work will play an important role in ensuring payroll transactions are processed accurately, employee records remain up to date and payroll enquiries are resolved in a timely manner.

This role offers the opportunity to work in a complex environment where no two days are quite the same.

You will be trusted to manage your work with a high degree of independence while having the support of a knowledgeable team around you.

It is also a great opportunity to build further experience across payroll systems, data validation, reconciliations and process improvement.

The Role

You'll take day-to-day ownership of payroll transactions and employee records, keeping the numbers accurate and everything on track.

You will be responsible for:

  • Processing payroll transactions, contract changes, allowances, leave and payroll adjustments
  • Reviewing and maintaining payroll and employee data to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Responding to payroll enquiries from employees and managers, escalating complex matters where required
  • Supporting payroll validation and reconciliation activities to ensure payroll accuracy
  • Monitoring and actioning payroll tickets and service requests within agreed timeframes.
  • Liaising with the Managed Payroll Service provider on routine payroll matters
  • Assisting with maintaining payroll procedures, records and supporting documentation
  • Contributing to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve payroll processes and data quality
The Ideal Person

You're someone who takes genuine pride in getting the detail right, and who's comfortable managing a high volume of payroll transactions with minimal oversight.

You bring a naturally curious, analytical mindset, quick to spot a discrepancy and confident working through it to a resolution.

You will bring the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated payroll processing or payroll administration experience
  • Experience using Aurion or a similar enterprise payroll/HRIS platform
  • Strong Excel skills, with the ability to review, reconcile and analyse payroll data
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a genuine commitment to data accuracy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify discrepancies and investigate issues
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet payroll deadlines
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Australian citizenship, as this is a requirement of the role

It would also be desirable if you have:

  • Direct hands-on experience specifically with Aurion
  • Experience working within a large or complex organisation
  • Experience working with outsourced or managed payroll providers
  • An understanding of Enterprise Agreements and payroll legislation
  • Experience undertaking payroll reconciliations and data validation
Salary / Rate
  • $55/hr - $65/hr + Super
  • Six-month labour hire contract, with an immediate start available
