Colony Group is seeking an Accounts and Payroll Officer in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane (Hybrid) to lead month-end close, payroll processing, and financial reporting for our Australian business. Reporting to the COO, you will drive accuracy, compliance, and scalable finance processes across the team.

You will own end-to-end payroll, GST/BAS/PAYG obligations, and collaborate with external accountants. A strong, detail-focused mindset and collaborative approach are essential.

Formación

• 5+ years of finance or accounting experience
• Strong knowledge of reconciliations, month-end close, P&Ls and balance sheets
• Hands-on payroll experience with awards, superannuation and STP
• Understanding of GST, BAS and PAYG obligations
• Proficient in Xero and advanced Excel

Responsabilidades

• Own month-end close, including reconciliations, accruals and journals
• Prepare P&Ls, balance sheets and management reports for leadership
• Run end-to-end payroll for the Australian team (superannuation, PAYG, leave, STP)
• Work with external accountants to prepare and lodge BAS and ensure compliance
• Review and reconcile accounts to maintain data integrity
• Design and document finance processes and controls for scale
• Support accounts team across AP/AR and intercompany with PNG team
• Explain numbers to COO and leadership, interpreting what they mean

The opportunity

We’re looking for an Accounts and Payroll Officer to be the finance expert for our Australian business. Reporting to our COO, you’ll own month-end, reporting and payroll, and bring the confidence to recommend how things should be done. With a track record of cleaning up books and building better processes, you’ll work alongside our finance team to strengthen our foundations and help shape how the function grows with the business.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

• Owning month-end close, including reconciliations, accruals and journals
• Preparing P&Ls, balance sheets and management reports that give our leadership team a clear picture of the business
• Running end-to-end payroll for our Australian team, including superannuation, PAYG withholding, leave and Single Touch Payroll reporting
• Working with our external accountants to prepare and lodge BAS, and keeping us on top of our compliance obligations
• Reviewing and reconciling our accounts to ensure accuracy, and resolving underlying issues to maintain data integrity
• Designing and documenting finance processes and controls that help the business scale
• Supporting our accounts team across AP and AR, and partnering with our PNG finance team on intercompany transactions and group reporting
• Being the go-to finance advisor for our COO and leadership team, explaining the numbers and what they mean

The perfect candidate

• 5+ years of finance or accounting experience, ideally in an agency, professional services or multi-entity environment
• Strong technical knowledge across reconciliations, month-end, P&Ls and balance sheets
• Hands-on experience running end-to-end payroll, with a solid understanding of awards, superannuation and STP
• A sound understanding of GST, BAS and PAYG obligations
• Strong working knowledge of Xero and advanced Excel skills
• A collaborative approach, building strong relationships with colleagues across every team and office so we deliver great outcomes together
• Discretion with confidential information and a sharp eye for detail
